Parsons Named Education Advocate

John Parsons is the 2012 Education Advocate of the Year for Redondo Beach Unified School District.

Correction: A version of this article incorrectly stated that John Parsons was a member of the Harbor Commission when, in fact, he is the chairman of the Planning Commission. This has been corrected; we regret the error.

Current Redondo Beach Planning Commission Chairman, former Harbor Commissioner and former Councilman John Parsons was recognized as the Redondo Beach Unified School District's Education Advocate of the Year during the district's annual State of Education event.

In a brief speech following his acceptance of the award, Parsons emphasized the importance of volunteering.

This is not his first award. In 2005, he was named the Business Advocate of the Year by the South Bay Council of Governments, and he even has one named in his honor—the John J. Parsons SBACC Business Citizenship of the Year Award.

In addition to naming Parsons its Education Advocate of the Year, the school district celebrated rising test scores and a renewed focus on preparing all its students for college.
