Redondo Celebrates 'Sea Hawk Day'

The city of Redondo Beach honors the Redondo Union High School boys varsity basketball team, which took home the state championship title last weekend.

With cheers from the audience, Mayor Mike Gin officially declared Thursday as "Redondo Union High School Sea Hawks Boys Varsity Basketball Day."

The proclamation came during a rally in honor of the California Division II basketball championship team.

"You could see the heart in this team … the depth of this team is incredible," Mayor Mike Gin told the team and its coaches. "You've been an inspiration to our entire community."

Redondo Union Principal Nicole Wesley congratulated the team—especially first-year Coach Reggie Morris Jr. "We all know Coach Morris made a dream a reality," Wesley said.

"We started in September … It was a really interesting acclimation period that we had," Morris told the crowd. "I had to earn their trust, and they, in turn, they earned my trust…
