New Craft Brewery Up for Approval in Redondo Beach

Coastline Brewing will be Redondo Beach's first ever commercial brewery if approved by the Planning Commission Thursday night.

If all goes as planned, Redondo Beach will get its very own slice of the South Bay craft brewery boom as Coastline Brewing goes in front of the Redondo Beach Planning Commission for approval Thursday night.

According to documents from the city, Redondo Beach city staff are recommending that the planning commission approve the brewery's conditional use permit, which would allow Coastline to move forward with its plans.

If approved, the brewery will be built in North Redondo Beach near the intersection of 182nd Street and Kingsdale Avenue, behind the South Bay Marketplace. The new brewery is also proposing a tasting room open to the public during select hours Wednesday through Sunday.

Although no head brewer has been officially confirmed, Coastline has worked with Karl Strauss Brewing head brewer James Petti to develop pilot beers for the brewery.

Plans also indicate that Coastline has already developed two beers, including a light summer beer brewed with grains of paradise named Alligator Seed Wheat and the Black Cobra Porter, which uses Black Cobra pepper sourced from San Diego County.

Coastline said in its application that it will focus solely on kegging its beers for the first two years and will eventually bottle or can its beers in its third year of business.

Coastline Brewing will be supported by business partners William Daines and Thomas Dunbabin, both South Bay residents.

Check back with Patch next week for an interview with the founders and the final results of Thursday's Planning Commission meeting.
