 Sport Chalet Prepares Divers for Recreational Lobster Season

Start exploring the coast this season by catching your own California Spiny Lobster!  Sport Chalet in Marina Del Rey will host an exclusive Spear Fishing and Lobster Hunting Seminar Event this Saturday, Oct. 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. at 13455 Maxella Avenue.  Attendees will learn and receive expert advice on:

·         Proper gear selection before heading out and wrangling your first catch

·         Hot locations where you will have a successful haul

·         Tricks of the trade straight from the experts

·         How to prepare your catch for freezing and cooking

To make sure you’re prepared to dive for lobsters following the seminar, Sport Chalet has compiled the following list of lobster diving necessities:

−        All lobster divers must carry a spiny lobster report card that can be purchased from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). At the end of the season, report cards must be returned to the CDFW so the data can be used to manage wildlife populations.

−        Everyone must carry a gauge like the Trident Metal Abalone/Lobster/Clam when diving to ensure that the lobsters are large enough to keep. Be sure to check current measurements provided by the CDFW.

−        A game bag is a necessity for holding captured lobsters while stilling diving. The Sieden Sports Lobster Game Bag is great because its secure closure won’t allow the lobsters to escape.
