Celebrate International Surfing Day

The annual event, which aims to bring surfers together from all parts of the globe, is held June 20.

Surfers hoping to celebrate the seventh annual International Surfing Day on Monday were met with June Gloom, windy weather and not many waves in Redondo Beach; however, organizations planned at least two events for the South Bay wave enthusiasts.

More than 200 events across the globe were planned to commemorated the event, according to the International Surfing Day website.

The South Bay chapter of the International Surfrider Foundation kicked off the day in Manhattan Beach with a beach cleanup on the north side of the pier from 8 a.m. until noon.
