South Bay Cup Invitational

The top local cross country invitational, the South Bay Cup, will feature almost all the high school teams in the south bay as well as many from the greater region such as Santa Monica and San Pedro.

Redondo Union will be resting their varsity runners who are just back from the Nike Pre-Nationals in Oregon, and due to compete again this coming Saturday at the Warren Stauffer Invite. However, their strong Freshman boys and JV girls teams will be racing to win.

Even without the Redondo girls, now ranked number 1 in the state in CIF D2, the Varsity Girls race, going off at 4:30 pm, should still be a real barn-burner. Expected to run are Mira Costa, ranked 5th in the state in CIF D2, West ranked 4th in the state in CIF D3, Palos Verdes, ranked 5th in the state in CIF D3, and Chadwick, ranked 1st in the state in CIF D5.

The last event of the day, the Varsity Boys race, is scheduled to go off at 5:00 pm. This could also prove to be a top notch, and very competitive race with San Pedro's David Rosalas, Mira Costa's Adam Perez, North's Levi Cajiao and Preston Lewis, plus Torrance's Billy Sanders.

Hosted by Torrance High School, the XC course in Columbia Park is mostly flat with a few low rolling hills and is considered very fan-friendly. Come out and watch. You'll be able to see most of the race from almost anywhere in the park.
