Locals Take Top Spots in Triathlon

Redondo Beach resident Chris Foster wins the Redondo Beach Triathlon on Sunday.

Two South Bay residents took the top spots in the men's and women's divisions of the Redondo Beach Triathlon on Sunday.

Redondo Beach resident Chris Foster, 30, finished the triathlon with a time of 39:25, beating Whittier resident Brian Lamar, 30. This is the third time Foster has won the race, after taking the top honors in 2009 and 2006.

Last year, Foster finished second in the Los Angeles Triathlon.

Manhattan Beach resident Taylor Spivey, 22, was the top finisher in the women's division, with a time of 43:51—nearly three minutes ahead of second-place finisher Brooke Bishop, 23, of San Francisco.

The annual Redondo Beach Triathlon is not a full triathlon but a "sprint" sanctioned by USA Triathlon. It consists of a half-mile swim in the ocean, a 6-mile bicycle route and a 2-mile run.
