Redondo Jr. Pee Wee Takes Division Championship

Redondo Union Pop Warner program caps undefeated season with 34-8 victory over Palos Verdes.

Redondo's Jr. Pee Wee Pop Warner team completed an undefeated season Saturday, winning the Southern California Conference championship against Palos Verdes.

Led by John Jackson Jr., the Sea Hawks pulled away in the second half to win 34-8.

Of the four Redondo teams that played for their respective championships, only the Jr. Pee Wees got the win.

Jackson's father and head coach, John Jackson, was an All-American wide receiver and center fielder at USC in the 1980s and played four years in the NFL.

"I couldn't be more proud of these guys," he said. "They play hard. They practice hard. It's one thing when you win a championship as a coach, and it's great. But when you know that your team deserves it with the hard work they put in, it's even better."

Jackson's players went undefeated as Mitey Mites last year. But unlike last year when winning their divisional championship was the end of their season, they will play against the winner of the Mount Baldy conference in the West Con Regional Championship next week at Redondo Union High. The winner advances to play in San Diego.

"They don't know losing, but they do know focus," Jackson said.

Conrad Rubio, president of Redondo Pop Warner, said its teams represented the league well playing for four division titles.

"It's been a long time since we had four teams playing for championships," Rubio said.

In the other divisions, the Mighty Mites fell to Palos Verdes 32-6; the Pee Wees lost 14-12 to Palos Verdes; and the Jr. Midgets fell 34-12 to Torrance.
