Sea Hawks Score in Pitchers' Duel

Redondo Union High School's baseball team prevails, 1-0, over Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Wessel threw against Peninsula's Cristian Torres, who pitched a shut-out until the fifth inning.

Redondo's Travis Fischvogt started it off in the fifth inning with a one-out single to left field, which brought third baseman Drew Kozain to the plate. Wessel proceeded to pitch flawless sixth and seventh innings, ending the game on a fly ball to center.

The Sea Hawk defense, which has been battling errors of late, showed no signs of letting up or weakening. Key plays in the infield by shortstop Matt Esparza and second baseman Johnny Melendez, as well as several running catches in the outfield gaps by outfielders Richard Atherton and Fischvogt, helped ensure the victory over Peninsula.
