Sea Hawks Sweep Past Palos Verdes

The Redondo Union girls volleyball team, ranked No. 3 in the CIF Division 1-AA, makes quick work of the Sea Kings.

The Redondo Union High girls volleyball team swept aside Palos Verdes in a Bay League match on Tuesday, 25-14, 25-19, 25-23, improving to 14-5 on the season with its eighth consecutive victory.

This one was void of drama.

"We work on the basics in practice and that's why it looks so easy on the court," middle blocker Nicole White said.

Sea Hawks coach Tommy Chaffins said his team had a "phenomenal" practice on Monday and came out and executed a good game plan, played excellent defense. Chaffins said Lara Dykstra, Skylar Dykstra and Tiffany Morales played especially well.

The Sea Hawks have not lost a latch since Sept. 25 when they fell to Louisville, Ky., Assumption, the ninth-ranked girls volleyball team in the country, at the Durango Fall Classic in Las Vegas.

The Sea Hawks, ranked No. 3 in CIF Division 1-AA, will host Torrance West on Thursday in a Bay League match.

"We know that we have targets on our back when we go out there and that they want to come out and get us," Morales said. "We're really focused in practice, especially with Lara (Dykstra) and Blake (O'Brien), our leaders. They keep motivating us.

"We're working really hard in practice, making sure we always have that next-play focus. Nothing gets us down."
