Surf Report: Decent Dose of Action

Note: County health officials advise surfers and swimmers to stay out of the water for 72 hours after rain.

Good Thursday morning, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Redondo Beach Patch surf report. Well, we're seeing a decent dose of action out there, if you're brave enough to venture into the water after rain. It looks like there could be a pretty fun window once that tide does its thing!

The conditions are starting off fairly clean, with some texture on the water at some spots. Taking a look at the waves, we're seeing a mixture of swells. We have some new south swell and some lingering west-northwest windswell.

That recipe is offering some fast, drained-out, section-y lines, with some nice pick-and-choose corners. Most spots in Redondo Beach are pulling waist- to chest-high waves, with the top combo breaks seeing shoulder-high waves.

Checking the tides—at 5:39 a.m. it drained out to a -1.4 low, which will have many spots needing water early on. The tide then climbs back up to a 3.9 high at 12:14 p.m. and drops once again to a 2.1 low at 4:52 p.m.

If you're going to get in the water, throw on a 3/2 fullsuit—or maybe even a 4/3 and booties—with the water temperature averaging between 57 and 58 degrees. Have fun out there!

Note: County health officials urge surfers and swimmers to stay out of the ocean after a rain for at least 72 hours due to the possibility of increased bacteria levels, especially near river mouths, storm drains and harbor entrances.
