Colby Fire Smoke Affecting South Bay Air Quality

The effects of a brush fire in the Angeles National Forest above Glendora were felt all the way in the South Bay on Thursday morning as a cloud of brown smoke blanketed the area all the way to the ocean.

According to the the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the air quality is expected to stay moderate in the South Bay.

Nevertheless, the South Coast Air Quality Management District issued a smoke advisory for the region, noting that the air in the coastal areas of southwest Los Angeles County is "expected to remain unhealthy for sensitive groups" due to ash.

People who live in areas directly impacted by smoke should avoid any vigorous exertion, whether indoors or outdoors, and people with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children should remain inside. Keep windows and doors closed or seek alternate shelter, and residents should run air conditioners if they have them—just keep the fresh air intake closed and the filter clean to prevent bringing smoke inside.

It's also not a good idea to use any wood-burning appliances, including fireplaces, during a smoke advisory.

Almost all of L.A. County has been under a red flag warning for the past several days.
