Weekend Beach, Surf, Weather Report

A look at the weather forecast, surf conditions and beach water quality grades in Los Angeles County for the weekend of July 20-21.

Los Angeles Weather Report

The National Weather Service predicts Saturday will see partly sunny skies with highs near the coast hovering near 70 degrees. Lows on Saturday are expected to be in the mid 60s with clouds coming in overnight. 

Sunday brings a 20 percent chance of showers but will see partly sunny skies for most of the day. Highs on Sunday will be in the lower 70s with overnight lows in the mid 60s. Sunday night will also see a slight chance for thunderstorms and rain.

Los Angeles Surf Report

A very high potential for strong currents and rip tides is expected this weekend, bringing dangerous swimming conditions, according to the National Weather Service. Surfers will see surf heights in the 2-4 foot range due to a strong northwest wind swell combined with a south swell. Larger sets will see surf heights closer to 5 feet. Expect water temperatures to range between 67 and 69 degrees. 

Los Angeles County Beach Report Card: 

The interactive map is a water quality report for beaches in dry weather from the past 30 days compiled from data courtesy of Heal the Bay, a nonprofit environmental group. Beach grades are based on an A+ to F scale. Grades indicate the likelihood of swimmers becoming ill. Water samples are analyzed for bacteria – enterococcus, total and fecal coliforms. The report does not measure the amount of trash or toxins found at local beaches. 

  • Dark Blue Marker = A+ 
  • Light Blue Marker = A 
  • Green Marker = B 
  • Yellow Marker = C 
  • Pink = D 
  • Red Marker = F 
  • Purple Marker = No sample taken
