Monday Essentials: CEC Workshop, Holiday Festivities

Here's what to look forward to this week in Redondo Beach.

Happy Monday! Here are five things Redondo Beach residents should know this week:

  1. The Redondo Beach City Council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Redondo Beach City Hall. Agenda items include a possible moratorium on power plant construction, employee agreements and free parking during the holiday season.
  2. Prior to the city council meeting, Redondo Beach will host its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, in addition to the lighting of a giant menorah. Festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Civic Center, located at 415 Diamond St. Another giant menorah will be lit tonight at the South Bay Galleria.
  3. The California Energy Commission will host its second public workshop regarding plans to repower AES Redondo Beach at 3 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Harbor Drive.
  4. Today is Cyber Monday, and Patch wishes you luck with your online shopping. By some estimates, we’ll collectively spend $1.8 billion today. Remember to protect your security with strong passwords and be careful what you click on. The Center for Internet Security offers more security tips.
  5. Save some of your money for #GivingTuesday, a national effort by the United Nations Foundation and the 92d Street Y in New York City. Donate to the charity of your choice. It may be your most important gift of the season.
