Elected by the residents of Redondo Beach, the Mayor and the Council formulate policy, enact laws, promote community interests and implement programs and services than imporve the quality of life in Redondo Beach.
Reelected in 2009, Mayor Mike Gin is currently serving his second term as the 28th mayor of Redondo Beach. He is also a field deputy for Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, representing the Supervisor in the community of San Pedro, Wilmington, Harbor City, Westfield, Academy Hill, and the cities of Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates.
A Council member represents each of the five city district.

The Mayor and Council also sit as members of the Redevelopment Agency, Parking Authority, Public Financing Authority and Housing Authority. Council Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 415 Diamond Street (Calendar).
