You can't improve the education system without making the tough choices like implementing theRead More Wisconsin reforms. Next you have to stop Common Core in its tracks. Common Core is just a way for the federal government to institute another phase of Agenda 21 by taking over the education system at all levels. The education of our kids must be done at the local level and not in D.C. or Sacramento. There has to be tenure reforms that makes it easier to terminate bad teachers who are tenured. At the same time we have to reward teachers who are doing an excellent job. We also need to recognize that not all students are created equally when it comes to grey cells. We have to stop trying to dumb down the bright kids and give them the opportunity they need to fly to new heights. Some kids are going to end up hamburger flippers while others will be rocket scientists or the next Steve Jobs or perhaps the next Herbert von Karajan. The answer is not to dump more money into this bottom less pit that gives us no results.

Oh and Al, I know it's also Ted Lieu's M.O., but when you send emails out to people asking for help,Read More you shouldn't block them on your facebook page for simply asking a question.

I just have to shake my head. You now have a completely democrat controlled state, who wanted moreRead More socialism, and now that you've got it? sheesh. Make up your minds. Oh!! and I'm sure that you know that socialism doesn't work forever, because sooner or later, you run out of other people's money. Maybe if we get less money, we'll get less social engineering. (see the post above). Sickening....boys going into girls bathrooms. Young girls taken to get an abortion without parents knowledge or consent. Oh perhaps soon you'll just have a big box of "Plan B" at the office counter. You guys broke it. When the masses figure that out, maybe finally we'll start electing thinking adults as our representatives again.

I see a picture of our Seaside Lagoon in the article. I certainly hope it will not be a landmarkRead More forever gone also.

Actually, it is over for the City Council. District 1 was a landslide, too. It might be over forRead More Mayor. And yet another runoff for Treasurer......

I would like to encourage all my neighbors to please start reading the local papers or at least keepRead More reading on Patch AND watch or attend the council meetings when these critical issues are up on the agenda. Voters must hold our elected officials accountable to honestly represent those that put them in office. The corporations don't get a vote, that's why they have the Chamber of Commerce who does their political bidding for them (remember that next time you get political mailers from the Chamber). The people, the voters, those for and against Measure A---- most agree that a new plant on our coast with increased emissions through the year 2070 is NOT in the city's best interest nor for our families, schools and overall community. AES has not won. This game is not over. You will only allow AES to "win" if you disengage and give up. If our city council is finally ready to represent us, then it's "Game On". I will be the first one standing right next to No on A advocates to show that as a whole, we do have more in common than not. We have our families, neighbors and community to fight for. The state agencies testified to the city council that this plant could retire and they wanted to know if that was the sentiment of the community. Hello? Any reason not to answer them and put Redondo's best interest forward and on file with the CEC? It's time for Redondo to have a seat at the table, don't you all think?

Chris M: Please stay involved. We neighbors have awakened to what was happening in City Council,Read More and now we will be more vigilant in holding political traitors accountable in the voting booth. We will continue to take the fight to Sacramento, by any legal means necessary, and through non-violent civil disobedience, if necessary. Closing a huge gap (est'd 65-35 against Measure A) just before the election, just by talking to neighbors, almost pulled off a miracle. We have momentum and my feeling is that we will soon have a matter in Steve Aspel who has the guts to unite people and become the greatest Mayor in the history of Redondo Beach. He knows he won't get a free pass from the people, and he is not a fan of the power plant.
Chris M March 7, 2013 at 02:47 pm
I can't understand why someone would want a new power-plant in this beautiful town. What a mess, andRead More we don't even realize a tax benefit, because from what I have read AES pays very little tax into the general fund. This was a lose/lose for the city. The people have been duped and scared by propaganda, jsut goes to show how uninformed the electorate is.

Here's a fascinating story on PBS Frontline on The Retirement Gamble and how some folks are gettingRead More cheated by saving in a 401k program. I feel sorry that the younger generation does not have the safety net we did. They really need to fight and be aware and get political. It seems that they are being taught that they don't deserve retirement programs, or health care. And, they are accepting that big corporations and the the richest in our country shouldn't pay their fair share. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/retirement-gamble/
