Quite the story. But, why does everyone need a celebrity kitty? Make any kitten/cat a celebrity byRead More adopting it & giving it its own special story in your family.

Thanks, Jerry, for pointing that out. I've corrected the mistake.

Do they count a church as being a charity?

Yes John should have said "kids with special needs" but that term change is new to theRead More public. He did a good job on the article and shot some great photos! Vince Ray director of the Hermosa Beach Friendship Circle Surf Camp and the Hermosa Beach Chevron Surf camp. www.hermosasurfcamp.com

Hi C, Good point, & I wish we all could look at others as children first and not define othersRead More by their specials needs, disabilities, mental illness, etc. Even adults are children... :) Thanks for your comment and compliments. We strive to cover the goodness in the world, indeed! :)

Hey Patch writers, please make a note for next time, that they are children first. Their specialRead More needs are secondary. = "children with special needs" Thanks! Great article and good job pointing out such an awesome organization!

I'm not a trouble maker, but let them cut my line and there will be TROUBLE!

Trust me, if this had happened at Belmont Pier, or my daughter's fishing pole, somebody would haveRead More gone to jail. Believe that!!!
carter kendrick August 17, 2012 at 08:50 pm
Simple answer...they hold the fishing derby once a year. Ban all surfing within a fifty feetRead More distance within the pier that day. Cite anyone that violates the issue and that will solve the problem.

All of you Red Hatters are so wonderful! And you make a difference in so many of the charitiesRead More you're involved in. We would love help in our volunteer effort to get the AES power plant issue on the ballot. We are currently out collecting signatures and believe this issue has been a sensitive one for decades in this community and it's time the residents have voice. Let's give Redondo residents a VOTE. It's clear that after almost 2 years of trying to work with the mayor and our city council, they are not interested in what their constituents want. They are working 'with' AES and are arrogantly not listening to the voters who put them in office. Our only hope is a resident-led initiative that may make the March 2013 ballot. It's important to note that the two most sensitive groups to the pollutants emitted by the AES plant (most dangerous is exposure to particulate pollution) are SENIORS and CHILDREN. This issue warrants careful consideration. I can be reached at sheri@nopowerplant.com if you'd like additional information. Two informative websites are http://aesredondomustgo.blog.com/ and http://www.nopowerplant.com/ Thank you all for those fabulous hats and all that you do! Many blessings...

Hi again Jeanne, If you are interested, you could have a sign on your lawn or help collectRead More signatures of registered voters at the grocery stores in August and September to put their initiative on the ballot next March. They are a mixture of normal people, not zealots, many our age. Also check Building a.Better Redondo.Com Thanks!

Hi, I'm a Red Hatter in Santa Rosa, N. Calif. I enjoyed your story and the friendships you'veRead More made. I visit my daughter & family in Redondo often. I thought maybe some in your group might want to volunteer to help my daughter's volunteer group: NO MORE POWER PLANT.COM, If you agree with trying to stop the AES plans to rebuild.

Ya Nancy, it's something they can take pride in. And we too can take pride in it also since thisRead More ship was a product of our massive war production during WWII, which was a main reason we won that war, and is what built our large and robust middle class afterwards by switching just some of it to civilian production.

In February,1952 I came aboard The USS Iowa in Long Beach fresh out of boot camp. Long Beach wasRead More our home port and had been since her recommissioning in August 1951. Long Beach remained our home port until we joined the Korean War in April 1952. In a way Long beach was an unusual home port. We were anchored out about three miles from land and there were no other ships around. Long Beach was a small town in those days and the people of Long Beach treated us well. The Pike was in its heyday and that is where we spent our liberties. When we returned from Korea in November 1952 our ships band struck up the tune "California Here I come" and it was a welcome song for the entire crew. I will ever be grateful to Long Beach for her generosity to the crew of the Iowa. Dale McKinnon, Timber, Oregon

It was an anonymous commenter with an anonymous source under an article in greaterlongbeach.com. SoRead More thanks, it is most probably an urban myth. But my imagination ran with it after seeing the movie Battleship and seeing many similarities.

Lol, tt... Some say Queen Mary is drug slang for marijuana. ("Queen Mary, she's myRead More friend. Yes I believe I'll go see her again.") Why not house all city approved medical MJ dispensaries on one deck, another deck for temporarily lodging recreational users with minor afflictions and a doctor's note, a long-term care deck accommodating those with more serious pain, a hospice deck on which those sailing into their final sunset might find solace and compassion, and below all else could be housed James Cameron's massive ego, close proximity to which would automatically generate a metaphysical thrill ride called The Abyss.

Great article! As Co-Founder of the Redondo Beach Art Group (RBAG), I can attest to the fact thatRead More it was Nina's perseverance and diligence that paved the way for a community of artists to have a voice in the City of Redondo Beach.
