City Flags at Half-Staff to Honor Bob Meistrell

Bob Meistrell, who co-founded Body Glove, died Sunday at the age of 84.

The city of Redondo Beach will fly all its flags at half-staff this week in memory of Body Glove co-founder Bob Meistrell, who died Sunday.

Mayor Steve Aspel announced the move on his Facebook profile, calling Meistrell a "true hero."

Flying the flags at half-staff is "a small token of our love and appreciation for one of the finest gentleman (sic) we have ever had the honor of knowing," Aspel wrote.

Meistrell, 84, died of a heart attack while on his boat the Disappearance, which was at Catalina Island in order to escort Meistrell's grandnephew Daley during the Rock 2 Rock paddleboard competition. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Meistrell co-founded wetsuit manufacturer Body Glove with his identical twin, Bill, who died in 2006.
