What Will a Revitalized Waterfront Look Like?

The city of Redondo Beach posts renderings of the revitalized waterfront on its website.

After eight public workshops and months of planning, CenterCal Properties and the city of Redondo Beach have unveiled a series of preliminary visions for the Redondo Beach waterfront.

The El Segundo-based developer's revitalization effort, expected to cost upwards of $300 million, will cover the Redondo Beach Pier, Pier Plaza, International Boardwalk and Redondo Beach Marina.

So far, the company's vision for the waterfront includes a small boutique hotel on the beach, as well as a high-end movie theater that would serve dinner. The plan also calls for office space for local professionals, a market hall with restaurants and local businesses; open space and public areas; and retail and specialty shopping.

The renderings posted on the city's website Monday show Seaside Lagoon restored to a more natural state; a revamped Redondo Beach Marina lined with a large boardwalk and many specialty stores; and an open, park-like area with a water feature and dining options.

CenterCal's revitalization efforts will be the crowning jewel among several improvements. The city renovated the bathrooms at Seaside Lagoon; RDR Properties, which owns the Redondo Landing on the Redondo Beach Pier, did significant improvements on its leasehold; and work has begun on a new Shade Hotel on the former Red Onion property.
