Redondo Beach Library Introduces Smartphone App

The Redondo Beach Public Library introduced its new smartphone app in October.

The Redondo Beach Public Library is now at residents' fingertips with the introduction of a new mobile application.

The app, which is available in both the Apple and Google Play app stores, will allow users to renew books, place books on hold, check library hours, download ebooks, check accounts and more.

"Everyone lives on their mobile phones these days, so it's important for the library to be easily accessible whenever and wherever people need access to our rich resources," according to the library. "This mobile app puts library information just one click away with much faster access than going through a browser."

Readers can also use the app to scan an ISBN barcode to see if the library has a copy of the specific title.

"With this amazing feature, if you're at a bookstore, you can just scan the book's ISBN, see if the title is owned by the library, and if it is, place a hold on it right from your phone," according to the news release.

The funding for the app, which was developed by Boopsie Inc., came from the Friends of the Redondo Beach Library.
