New Signs Will Make Crossing Streets Safer, Police Say

The new handheld stop signs for crossing guards will be deployed Tuesday.

Crossing guards in Redondo Beach will be more noticeable when helping children cross the street during this school year.

Starting Tuesday, crossing guards in the city will have handheld stop signs that contain flashing red LEDs at the top.

"The signs ... are designed for high visibility in all weather conditions to alert on-coming motorists to react and stop sooner, allowing pedestrians and children to cross streets in a safe manner," Redondo Beach police Sgt. Chuck Prestia wrote in a news release.
