RBEF Authorizes $600K+ for RBUSD

The Redondo Beach Educational Foundation will contribute to numerous programs in the 2013-2014 school year.

After a "record-breaking" annual donor drive and annual fundraiser event, the Redondo Beach Educational Foundation on Monday night authorized more than $600,000 for programs in Redondo Beach Unified School District for the 2013-2014 school year, RBEF President Ted Craddock announced at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting.

This year, the organization plans to fund college trips at the elementary and secondary school level, early participation in college aptitude tests, family science nights at local schools, lab science teachers at elementary schools and middle school intramural programs, among other programs.

The RBEF will also fund a program to provide grants for RBUSD teachers. Last year, the organization awarded 17 grants.

"We expect to meet that and possibly exceed that this year," Craddock said.

The foundation, which recently went through a structural reorganization, will also be rolling out a new corporate sponsorship program. RBEF also now has representatives for each school to help with marketing and fundraising in the coming months.
