Bay League Cross Country Finals this Thursday

This Thursday Nov. 4th the Bay League will be holding its league finals cross country meet in Palos Verdes. The third and final Bay League XC meet, will showcase all five schools competing for championship titles in six categories of races. The varsity teams will also be competing to qualify for post-league competition, which in a series of three more meets, will continue to narrow the field for the state championships on November 27th.

In the varsity girls race, the Redondo juggernaut looks pretty unstoppable. The only team with any chance for an upset is steadily improving Mira Costa.

The varsity boys title looks good for clear favorite in Palos Verdes. But, West seems to be getting stronger every week, the Redondo boys are hungry for a major win, and depending on the placement of the top individuals from the Peninsula and Mira Costa teams, the scoring may be skewered enough to produce an upset.

Based on their runaway performance in the previous meet, the West freshman girls look good to take their division. They put all five scorers in the top eight spots last time.

Redondo's freshman boys team is the favorite going into this meet. The Palos Verdes boys are the only real threat for an upset, and considering that the race will be on their home course, it will be interesting to see what happens.

The junior varsity girls race should prove to be a contest between Redondo who won the first race and Mira Costa who won the second. As in the varsity girls division, no others will challenge these two teams.

It's hard to imagine any team getting the better of the Peninsula junior varsity boys, as they've been completely dominant in the first two meets. Last time out they put all 5 scorers in among the top nine finishers.

The Bay League Finals will be held this Thursday Nov. 4th starting at 1:15 pm with the non-scoring Novice race. Palos Verdes will host the meet on their course at the Lunda Bay Little League fields and in the surrounding hills. This is an excellent, fan-friendly classic XC course with dirt and grass trails, long steep hills and plenty of rock studded terrain, uneven ground and narrow brush lined pathways.

Come out and watch some of the best cross country teams in the state race in their final league competition of the year.
